Step 4- Pray a Lot and Pray a Lot of Scripture

Image
“And we too must realize- in our day- that prayer is serious business. The only reason we’ve been given the privilege of prayer at all is because Jesus, our “great High Priest,” has violently taken on our sin with His own blood and “passed through the heavens” to create a portal of access to the Father.”- Steven and Alex Kendrick, The Battle Plan for Prayer Prayer is a powerful tool and essential for the Christian walk. Staying in a state of constant communication with God throughout the day will provide more peace than anything the world has to offer. He’s the only counselor that has all the answers, the only physician that can fully heal you, and the only redeemer who can truly redeem you.  One of the best ways to get through difficult times is by praying for God to pull you through each moment. You can pray something like this, “God, help me make it through this moment, this day, this week.  I surrender this day to you. Fill me with your Holy Spirit.”  Prayer sh...

Step 3- Learn God's Character

Image
“There’s something in him that I simply didn’t see.”-  Belle, Beauty and the Beast Proverbs 18:10 (ESV): “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” Maybe you have a hard time believing God will be faithful and is making all things work together for your good because you haven’t really gotten to know His character. His actions may seem confusing and inconsistent to you at times. The God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament may seem vastly different. What some understand and see as inconsistency has turned them away from God completely.  Personally, the more I get to know His character, the more I see He is always the same, and the more I love Him and trust Him. We can learn more about God’s character by learning His names.  God's names are who He is, His character, His attributes, etc. "In our times of need, God is Jehovah Jirah-  the  Lord our Provider.  When we struggle with sickness,...

Step 2- Be Still and Obey

Image
“In Sleep he sang to me/ In dreams he came/ That voice which calls to me/ And speaks my name”-  The Phantom of the Opera We have access to the presence and power of God because of death of Jesus and the tearing of the veil. We can begin to access this presence by opening His word and setting aside time to meet with Him. Hebrews 4:12 (ESV): “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” We must look for God at the beginning and end of each day and start seeing our lives through a new lens. We start doing this by being transparent with God’s word and using it as a mirror. This requires us to have an honest interaction with Him and trusting Him to complete in you the work He began. Do we want God to give us something more than we want God Himself? God wants to give good gifts to His children, but He is the ultimat...

Step 1- Repent

Image
“And at last I see the light/ And it’s like the fog has lifted/ And at last I see the light/ And it’s like the sky is new/ And it’s warm and real and bright/ And the world has somehow shifted/ All at once everything looks different/ Now that I see you.” - Tangled Just like in this song from the movie "Tangled," everything looks different when you "see the light" and look to God. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” The verse claims that God works all things for the good of those who LOVE God and are called according to His purpose . You have to love Him and want His purpose first. You have to allow him to take away your heart of stone and allow Him to put in you a heart of flesh. God is Holy and cannot tolerant sin, and if we expect God to actually do a mighty work in our lives, we have to be sure of two things: first, we need to be sure that w...

Introduction

My Delight is in Her 12 Steps on Following God as a Single Woman Isaiah 62:1-5 (ESV) “1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. 2 The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. 3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the God, 4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. 5 For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.” The passage above seemed a little odd to me the first time I read through it and felt a strong pull on my heart’s strings. I just knew it as ...
