Introduction
My Delight is in Her
12 Steps on Following God as a Single Woman
Isaiah 62:1-5 (ESV)
“1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. 2 The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. 3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the God, 4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. 5 For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.”
The passage above seemed a little odd to me the first time I read through it and felt a strong pull on my heart’s strings. I just knew it as a beautiful promise with soothing poetic words, but I didn’t understand what God was trying to show me. Upon studying these verses in more depth, I have learned that they are about God delivering His people out of captivity from Babylon and are prophesying about the new covenant (salvation) we have through Jesus. Personally, the verses above have shown me that God does not forsake His children, but rather, He wants to delight in you, rejoice over you, and call you by a new name. Am I saying that it is God’s will for everyone to be married? Absolutely not! What I am saying is that God has a plan for each of His children, and He has not forgotten His plan for you. Not only that, but God wants you to engage with Him during your singleness, pray through your struggles, and tell Him your desires. The following steps have helped me and continue to help me in my walk with God as a single woman, and I will be discussing each one in more depth in separate posts.
Step 1- Repent
Step 2- Be still and obey
Step 3- Learn God's character
Step 4- Pray a lot and pray a lot of scripture
Step 5- Pray your desires..no really..it's okay
Step 6- Renew your mind
Step 7- Letting go and preparing yourself
Step 8- Pray for men and fight the enemy
Step 9- Iron sharpens iron
Step 10- Waiting
Step 11- Warning signs and dating and what to do with them
Step 12- Keep God first in your heart...always
