Step 7- Letting Go and Preparing Yourself

Image
“These walls were not meant to shut out problems. You have to face them. You have to live the life you were born to live.”- Mother Abbess, The Sound of Music No Root of Bitterness Hebrews 12:14-17: Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; that no one is sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears. As the old saying goes, “you can’t drink poison and expect it to kill your enemy.” It took me a long time to understand that not forgiving people only hurts you. “Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hate. Forgiveness breaks the chains of bittern...

Step 6- Renew Your Mind

Where do you let your thoughts take you? Do you harp on the pain of the past?  Do you daydream all day about sex, marriage, pregnancy, and being a mother when God hasn’t given you those blessings yet? Do you watch hours upon hours of mindless TV shows and imagine what your life would be like if you were Blair Waldorf, Lady Mary Crawley, Rachel Green, or whoever the star is of your favorite show? I know you do. I know because if I let myself, I will do the exact same thing. I’m not saying wanting to be a wife and a mother is a bad thing. Those aren’t bad desires at all, and I hope that if that’s what you want that you continue to ask God for those blessings, but you can't live in a fairytale that doesn’t exist. Also, if we let ourselves, we will be overcome with our own failures and insecurities when life doesn't go as expected. Take Every Thought Captive We take every thought captive by fighting back insecurities with scripture. We fight back all the lies that the ene...

Step 5- Pray Your Desires..No Really...It's Okay

Psalm 37:3-6 (ESV): Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Praying your desires can be tricky, but it’s not as complicated as we make it out to be. Obviously, you don’t want something to come about that isn’t God’s will for you. At the same time, God will start to speak to you about His will for your life as you draw nearer to Him. Furthermore, God cares about what you want!!!  Maybe we have felt shamed in the past for thinking that our desires were not important enough to bring to Him, but that just isn't true. It is true that not everyone will get married, but when God’s Spirit lives in us and we are walking by the Spirit, He controls our desires. That desire in your heart is there for a reason...

Step 4- Pray a Lot and Pray a Lot of Scripture

“And we too must realize- in our day- that prayer is serious business. The only reason we’ve been given the privilege of prayer at all is because Jesus, our “great High Priest,” has violently taken on our sin with His own blood and “passed through the heavens” to create a portal of access to the Father.”- Steven and Alex Kendrick, The Battle Plan for Prayer Prayer is a powerful tool and essential for the Christian walk. Staying in a state of constant communication with God throughout the day will provide more peace than anything the world has to offer. He’s the only counselor that has all the answers, the only physician that can fully heal you, and the only redeemer who can truly redeem you.  One of the best ways to get through difficult times is by praying for God to pull you through each moment. You can pray something like this, “God, help me make it through this moment, this day, this week.  I surrender this day to you. Fill me with your Holy Spirit.”  Prayer sh...

Step 3- Learn God's Character

Image
“There’s something in him that I simply didn’t see.”-  Belle, Beauty and the Beast Proverbs 18:10 (ESV): “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” Maybe you have a hard time believing God will be faithful and is making all things work together for your good because you haven’t really gotten to know His character. His actions may seem confusing and inconsistent to you at times. The God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament may seem vastly different. What some understand and see as inconsistency has turned them away from God completely.  Personally, the more I get to know His character, the more I see He is always the same, and the more I love Him and trust Him. We can learn more about God’s character by learning His names.  God's names are who He is, His character, His attributes, etc. "In our times of need, God is Jehovah Jirah-  the  Lord our Provider.  When we struggle with sickness,...
